Dental Bridges in Lake Mary, FL
A Faster, Easier Way To Replace Missing Teeth
Most missing teeth need to be replaced or your self-confidence and oral health could suffer. We usually recommend dental implants, as they’re the most effective and long lasting solution to tooth loss. Unfortunately, not everyone qualifies for implants, and they tend to be a costly restoration. If you’re missing up to four adjacent teeth in a row, Dr. Bonn of Lake Mary Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry can replace them with a durable and cost-effective dental bridge.
What Are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is a restoration that utilizes false teeth called pontics. These pontics have dental crowns attached on either end. The crowns will be anchored to the healthy teeth (anchor teeth) on either end of the space left by the missing teeth. Your crowns will hold the restoration in place, effectively ‘bridging the gap’ left by your lost teeth.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
Dental bridges come with some distinct benefits, especially for people who can’t undergo implant placement surgery. Some of those benefits are as follows:
- Can replace up to four teeth in a row
- Can last 15 years or more depending on materials used & your oral hygiene
- Can be customized to match your natural smile
- Helps maintain the shape of your face
- Helps prevent misalignment of other teeth
- Non-invasive installation process
- Cost-effective option
The Dental Bridge Process
Before Dr. Bonn recommends treatment with a dental bridge, he’ll have you attend an initial consultation. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bonn will gather vital information such as your current state of oral health, your smile goals, your medical history, and other information to help him make an informed decision about your treatment.
After you and Dr. Bonn have both agreed that a dental bridge is the right way to go, we’ll apply a local anesthetic to the soft tissues around the anchor teeth. Once we’re sure you’re numb to any pain, Dr. Bonn will remove a small amount of enamel from your anchor teeth and shape them into a base for your crowns.
Designing Your Dental Bridge
We’ll help you pick the materials for your bridge based on your unique dental needs. Next, we’ll take images and impressions of your teeth as they are. We’ll send these to a lab where they’ll be used by technicians to design your customized dental bridge.
Depending on your case, Dr. Bonn may provide a temporary bridge in the meantime so you can get used to the feel of it and have a better bite until your permanent restoration is done. Once we have your bridge, you’ll return to our Lake Mary office to have it installed.
Installing Your Dental Bridge
Dr. Bonn will check with you to make sure your bridge is to your liking. If you like the way your bridge looks, we’ll remove any temporary bridges and clean your teeth. Then, Dr. Bonn will secure the bridge in place with a special dental adhesive. From there, you’ll be free to enjoy your fully restored smile.
Frequently Asked Questions
The cost of your dental bridge will depend on a variety of factors, including the material used, how many teeth need replacing, and your insurance coverage. We recommend contacting your dental insurance provider ahead of time to learn if your plan will cover some or all of the costs. For patients who need help affording their bridge, Lake Mary Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry offers third-party financing through CareCredit.
Dental bridges are made of stain resistant or stainless materials, so whitening will not be effective on them. Dr. Bonn recommends undergoing teeth whitening before having your bridge designed so we can better match the material of your bridge to your new smile.
If your bridge is damaged, Dr. Bonn can evaluate it and decide if it can be repaired or need to be replaced. Don’t attempt to fix and/or reinstall your bridge yourself, as this could damage your bridge further and endanger your oral health.
Instead, put the bridge and all pieces of the bridge in a plastic bag and call our Lake Mary office at (407) 333-7393 to schedule an appointment. Bring the pieces of the bridge with you on your appointment date.
The longevity of your dental bridge will depend on multiple factors, including the bridge’s materials and your oral hygiene. For example, a porcelain bridge can last 15 years or more, while a gold bridge may last 20 to 30 years. If you want to get the most out of your bridge, you’ll need to practice preventive care and attend regular dental exams with Dr. Bonn.
